On April 17, an online communication and exchange conference between China and Myanmar on COVID-19 pandemic prevention and control was co-hosted under the guidance of China NGO Network for International Exchanges, by members of Silk Road NGO Cooperation Network (SIRONET)- Peaceland Foundation, China Foundation for Peace and Development, and China-Myanmar Economic Corridor Development and Co-operated Organization.
Nearly 100 representatives from dozens of Myanmar NGOs and medical institutions, Chinese enterprises in Myanmar, and the press, along with overseas Chinese and Chinese students in Myanmar, partook in the event.
Mr.U Soe Nwe, Chairman of China-Myanmar Economic Corridor Development and Co-operated Organization has made a opening remark, pointing out that, the COVID-19 pandemic is now engulfing the world regardless of races, religions and beliefs, and no one can meet all challenges on its own. He also extended his appreciations to China’s assistance for sending medical experts and donating medical supplies to Myanmar. He believes we will finally overcome this difficulty in the end.
Dr. Wang Sujuan, Associate Chief Physician of Intensive Care Unit of Shanxi Hospital of Integrated Traditional and Western Medicine, who was among the first batched of medical workers deployed to Hubei Province, and Mr. Liu Xiaolu, Associate Chief Physician of Emergency Intensive Care Unit of Shanghai Minhang TCM Hospital, to exchange experience on COVID-19 prevention and control. They shared Chinese best practices and relevant experience in combating COVID-19 and answered questions from the audience. During the sharing session, the two speakers expounded on the following topics: what is the route of transmission of COVID-19? What measures should common people take to protect themselves? How to diagnose COVID-19?
Mr. Wen desheng, Director of Myanmar office of China Foundation for Peace and Development, pointed out that he was deeply moved by those assistance what all walks of life in Myanmar have provided for China. With regard to increasing number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Myanmar, Chinese government, companies, NGOs and people are all willing to help Myanmar in return.
Mr. Liu Zhihua, Executive Secretary General of Peaceland Foundation, introduced the efforts made by Chinese NGOs in the prevention and control of COVID-19. By hosting this online sharing session, we sincerely hope that the Chinese experience will benefit the Myanmar medical institutions and NGOs, and, going forward, we will continue to work with Myanmar people to fight the pandemic.
